Skills, Structure, and…Courage!

To the analytic, what’s more basic to starting a business than having a strong formula for return on investment? They wouldn’t start a business in the first place unless they had solid business models, well thought out risk mitigation strategies, and detailed financial projections for future profit.

As it happens, not everyone who starts a business is coming from a strictly analytical perspective.

What about the entrepreneurs who are technical artisans? These are left brain-right brain integrated folks who create their product and service with the head (left brain) and lead their enterprise with the heart (right brain). These entrepreneurs are mission driven. They want to make a difference in their customers’ lives. They have the highest standards for their deliverables, and they know those products and services can have a positive impact in some way for their clients over and over again.

At The Walters Group, we understand that mission driven entrepreneur. We posit our deliverables as skills, structure, and courage. To paraphrase from St. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians that “the greatest of these is love,” the greatest of these is courage. Courage is love too.

Courage [kur-ij]

  1. the ability to do something that frightens someone
  2. strength in the face of pain or fear

If you’ve started a business, then you’ve faced the unknown, you’ve experienced fear and pain, and you’ve felt isolated and alone. You have courage. In order to make your business succeed, you must continue to move forward even while feeling like there are insurmountable odds in front of you.

Synonyms: pluck, nerve, spirit, determination, guts, backbone, spunk, moxie, grit

One of my favorite TED Talks is Grit: the power of passion and perseverance | Angela Lee Duckworth. If you have started a business and keep fighting the fight to success, she is talking about you.

My clients have grit.

Yes, at The Walters Group we teach organizational skills and leadership skills. We can implement systems, procedures, and controls. We can help with metrics and key performance indicators. These are the left brain stuff – the hard return on investment (ROI) items found in business marketing collateral. But our expertise, the thing that brings us the most satisfaction and has the greatest impact on clients, is facilitating courage. We express belief in our clients and in their ability to successfully grow their business. We encourage them to keep moving forward and we support them using the mission motivated business language they speak.

There are many memes and cartoons that describe facing that threshold of being so close and almost giving up when you were inches away from a breakthrough. Sometimes not giving up requires a little help. The Walters Group can see your breakthrough, and we help you move forward to reach it.
